Creatives develop Surf Coast

Artists across the Surf Coast Shire can transform ideas into realities and explore new boundaries within their work through the latest Creative Development Grants Program.

Applications will open for grants of $3000 for individuals and $5000 for creative collectives on Sunday 1 February to support community wellbeing, local identity and regional economy.

Torquay paint and textile artist Andrea Shaw was a grant recipient last year and said she encouraged creatives across the region to get involved in the program.

“The grant allowed me time for trialling of new processes and techniques I otherwise might not have, to push my painting practice in new ways,” she said.

“The support has given me space to test, adapt and refine these approaches, informing both my studio work and the direction of future projects.”

Surf Coast Shire deputy mayor Tony Phelps said Creative Development Grants provide funding to support creative practice, strengthen professional skills and build sustainable career pathways for artists.

“This program supports development of ideas and growth of skills, contributing to our inclusive and dynamic creative sector,” he said.

“We will be providing a range of information sessions, starting with a one-hour online session from 6pm on Monday 2 February.”

Drop-in sessions will also be available at Winchelsea Shire Hall on 11 February from 11am, Lorne Community Connect on 18 February from 2pm, and at Surf Coast Shire Council’s office on 25 February from 2pm.

Visit surfcoast.vic.gov.au/creativedevelopmentgrant for more information about drop-in sessions and application criteria.
