Landbased anglers reaping rewards

Landbased fishing this past week has offered a great variety of species on the chew with the Geelong waterfront proving to be one of the standout locations.

Anglers have found good numbers of pinky snapper, flathead, salmon and even a few bream getting around.

Anglers targeting the bream have found best success sight casting them along the many structures that the waterfront holds, small vibes, crab style lures and soft plastics are all well worth throwing and of course bait is a great option too. As for all the other species, soft plastics are working very well as expected, in particular 2 to 4 inch with a curl, paddle or fork tail with natural colours working best.

The Bellarine Peninsula has been fishing very well this past week with King George whiting hot on the chew with Clifton Springs, Portarlington and St Leonards all producing the goods. The further around you go towards St Leonards the better the fishing is proving to be as of late. With strong tides predicted this weekend we can expect some even better fishing than what it has been. Pipis and squid are always going to be hard to beat with a small bit of burley in a cage on the bottom definitely plays a big factor.

Swan Bay has offered some great fishing this week for kayak and small boat fishos with pinky snapper, trevally and gummy sharks all lurking around in great numbers. Anglers bait fishing with salmon, squid, trevally and slimy mackerel have been getting amongst all three listed fish with gummy sharks to over a metre, snapper to 3kg and trevally to 45cm.

Aston Stavropoulos has been finding good numbers of gummies in here lately fishing from his kayak with salted mackerel proving to be the standout bait.

Yellowtail kingfish still remain on the chew in the rip this past week, although not heaps of fish being reported there are still a few reports coming through most days. Can expect this next moon to stir some of the fish up and fire up a bite.
