There were 38 finals matches played this week in the lead up to Tennis Geelong’s Junior Pennant grand finals and all teams gave their all with some doing better than others.
Ocean Grove played in 10 finals with Premier B, Boys 6 and 8, Girls 4 and 7 winning through, joining Boys 2 and Green Ball 3 who went straight through after winning their semis.
Grovedale had a 50 percent ratio with Premier A, Boys 2 and 10, and Girls 3 making into next week, joining Boys 1 and 5, Girls 1 who progressed in the first week.
Hamlyn Park were three from three this week with Boys 7 and 10 and Girls 4 all progressing, while Geelong Lawn performed very well with Boys 4, Girls 1, 2 ,6 and 7 taking the win from their eight teams, and Highton won four of their five in Boys 8 and 12, Girls 2 and 5.
Wandana Heights did well at both ends of the competition with Premier B and Green Ball 1 and 4 booking their places next week, along with Barwon Heads who were successful in Boys 1 and Green Ball 3.
Meredith narrowly won through in Girls 6, in the club’s first season in the competition, and should consider their first foray successful with Boys 12 also making finals, but missing out to Bannockburn this week.
Surfcoast had three teams progress in Boys 5, Girls 3 and 8, while Western Heights had a good day in Boys 3 and 9, both with wins against Lara. All Saints also had two wins in Boys 11 and Green Ball 2, while Drysdale, Moriac and Waurn Ponds had one win each in Girls 8, Premier A and Girls 5 respectively.
In the grand finals, Geelong Lawn will have eight teams competing, with Grovedale and Ocean Grove close behind with seven each and another 12 clubs in the 26 finals up for grabs.
