Spiller makes superb double ton

Lethbridge opener Hayden Spiller dominated round 8 of GCA cricket with a mammoth double century in Division 3 on Saturday 20 December.

Spiller made 210 from 156 balls and hit 22 fours and six sixes.

Spiller shared a staggering 303-run opening partnership with Jesse Sorgiovanni, who made 90.

In the same game, Tanner Hay smacked 96 from just 45 deliveries for Bannockburn, but Lethbridge’s 3/342 was too much by 46 runs.

Bell Park master blaster Nikhil Deep Pottabathini creamed 173 from 127 balls and hit 25 boundaries and two sixes in Division 2 while Highton’s Zac Wills made 118 and Hayden Butterworth scored 90 for Leopold.

South Barwon opener Clay Mulgrew fell one run short of his maiden Division 1 century, being run out for 99 from a direct hit by Andrew Casey. Had he made his ground, Mulgrew would have brought up a deserved ton.

Teammate Harry Hauenstein had a great game with 5/29 and 55 with the Swans getting the win.

Daniel Brew made 96 from 78 balls for Grovedale, although the Tigers went down to Newtown & Chilwell, which was well served by Pat McKenna (87), Lachie Sperling (53 not out and 3/56), Tyson Windus (70) and Nick Keast (27 and 4/69).

Victor Morrow had a first grade debut to cherish for North Geelong with 3/23 and 32 as his side got home in a thriller against St Peters. It was also Sam Hall’s 300th first grade game for North Geelong.

Blake Ash took 4/30 for Lara in a three-wicket win against East Belmont.

Meredith captain Tyler Dittloff made 76 and took 4/27 to spearhead his side to a Division 4 win against Teesdale.
