Geelong’s Country Week campaign has been thrown into turmoil after the players’ cricket gear was stolen from a trailer parked outside its Carlton motel overnight.
Geelong, which is undefeated after three days of competition, is meant to play Bairnsdale today, but the game is in doubt after the team discovered that thousands of dollars worth of cricket gear was stolen.
Speaking on radio station SEN this morning a team representative said among the equipment stolen were spiked footwear that players require to play on turf wickets.
The representative said the game was meant to begin at 10am today in Camberwell, but could be postponed until 11am to give the players time to source replacement equipment.
Yesterday, Geelong made it three wins from three games by beating Ferntree Gully & District at Gordon Barnard Reserve, Balwyn North.
Captain Sean O’Neill top scored with 57 in Geelong’s innings of 203 all out while Highton’s Greg Willows made 41 and Waurn Ponds Deakin gun Philip Visser made 30.
Ferntree Gully fell 17 runs short with Austin Humphrey (3/31), Luke Webb (3/50) and Dale Kerr (2/49) guiding Geelong to victory.
