Inside Corio Bay has remained very productive with Australian salmon still holding in great numbers right across the bay and the waterfront hosting most of the action.
Quite often the salmon can be seen busting up in varied parts of the bay and casting a small soft plastic amongst it should result in a hook-up nearly every time.
Pinky snapper and flathead have both been a common by-catch at the moment and as the cooler months roll in the fishing inside the bay should only improve.
The outer harbour has been a King George whiting hotspot as of late with Clifton Springs and Point Wilson proving to be stand out locations.
Fishing the lead up to a tide change has been the most effective time to fish.
Fresh calamari is always going to be a great bait along with pipis, to get the extra edge over the other boats drop the burley pot down with some pellets or pilchards cubes inside and that will bring the school right to you.
Around the corner towards St Leonards the whiting fishing out there at the moment is hot as well, the fish do seem to be bigger on average and there appears to be plenty more fish too.
Calamari have also been in great numbers right across the peninsula.
Holding in anywhere from 2-4 metres of water over the broken ground and weed have been great locations to start looking.
The water has been quite dirty due to all the recent rain but using squid jigs with a rattle has been a game changer, spray on squid scent has been helpful also.
Offshore Barwon Heads has been fishing very well for gummy sharks with some quality fish being caught.
From Barwon Heads to as far west towards Lorne along the 30 metre line has been fantastic.
Sharks to over 20kg have been boated along with plenty of smaller ones.
Down the coast the tuna bite is hot.
Barrels and school fish are everywhere – barrels have been in great numbers between Port Fairy and right through to Port MacDonnell with fish to 140kg on offer.
Aloha Super Ninjas have proved yet again to be a standout lure selection.
School tuna have been in plague numbers right along the coast, typically a bit wider of the barrels however there are still plenty in closer.
Starting on the 70m line and working around is the best place to start.
