First up win for Geelong

George Rhodes spearheaded Geelong Cricket Association’s round one Melbourne Country Week win against Ballarat on Monday February 13.

The English import and Newtown & Chilwell star made a blistering 95 from 99 delivered in Geelong’s final total of 6/294 at Eastern Oval, Ballarat.

East Belmont’s Sean O’Neill made a fine 71 from 86 while Sam Hall got the side off to a flyer with 45 from 36.

East Belmont’s Josh Lacey hit 29 not out from 26 to give Geelong a big score.

Ballarat never really looked like chasing down the target, although Zac Jenkins was in good touch for his 60.

Two wickets each to North Geelong speedster Dale Kerr, St Joseph’s Austin Humphrey and North Geelong’s Alistair McCann ensured Ballarat was dismissed for 158 in the 46th over.

McCann was particularly impressive, taking 2/12 from 10 overs.

Geelong meets Mornington Peninsula today at Schramms Reserve, Doncaster.

At the time of writing Geelong had gotten off to a poor start batting first and was 2/11 in the sixth over, losing both openers.
