Eagles rock to thriller premiership win

East Geelong won its first ever GDNL premiership with a nailbiting one-goal against Werribee Centrals.

The Eagles led by seven goals at the last break and looked headed for a convincing win, but the Centurions had other ideas and launched a spirited and amazing comeback.

They scored to put themselves one goal down but on the restart, the siren sounded to signal a win for East Geelong in a game that both sides would have proud of.

]Final scores were East Geelong 24 to Werribee Centrals 23.

Centurions captain and star defender Amanda O’Malley won the medal for best player on the court.

Werribee Centrals has won five A Grade flags since 2013, but it was East Geelong’s turn to break through.

For the Eagles it was a bountiful day. Not only did the A Grade side bring hom the flag, the reserves football and the Under 17s and Under 15s netball teams also won.

East Geelong midcourter Alana Cottrill was absolutely tremendous in a four-quarter display.
