The fishing around the region has been nothing short of spectacular over the past week with just about all species on the chew.
Starting in the bay the snapper are still going very well with plenty of reports rolling through with the outer harbour standing out.
Anglers fishing the channel are still picking up plenty of fish. The spoil grounds are starting to heat up with reports of anglers picking up fish on soft plastics, Gulp Jerk shads again dominating the reports in the area.
Portarlington has been producing some nice fish out in the old channel and spoil grounds just further north of it.
Mainly bait fishing again but you can expect to pick some up on plastics too. Bait fishos have been having their best success with silver whiting, pilchards, squid, manta shrimp and sauries. It is a long list of baits but each day is different and they can even be picky on the different tides even on the same day.
Calamari and King George whiting have upped the ante with reports getting better after a few weeks of it being a bit slower around the Clifton Springs. Calamari in the 2.5 to 4 metre mark have been in good numbers snatching up size 2.5 and 3.0 jigs. Bright and flashy colours have been working best lately with the super sunny days. The UV glow on the jigs will be popping with the natural light at the moment.
King George whiting have also been pretty good out there too, fishing a little deeper and ideally try to time your fishing to be around the stronger tides.
Queenscliff has had quite the bite of calamari over the past week with the Point Lonsdale bight holding majority of the action. The squid seem to be absolutely everywhere from shallow to deep and even very accessible for land based anglers fishing from the shore.
If you are going to fish from the shore, the low tide is best as it allows you to reach the weed beds easier where the squid are hiding.
Offshore snapper continue to be out in force with Gone fishing Charters right amongst the action again with some impressive numbers of fish being caught. Most fish have been averaging around the 1 kilo mark but there is still a great percentage of fish much larger getting around.
