Geelong Amateur inflicted Torquay’s first loss of the season to grab second place on the Bellarine Football League ladder.
Ammos are now half a game clear of Anglesea and won a thriller 12.11(83) to 11.16(82).
The Tigers had their chances in front of goal late in the game, but Ammos held on.
Star recruit Tom Gribble was best afield while mid-season signing Luke Hillier kicked three goals as did Jai Sheahan and Max Hungerford.
Torquay won’t lose much sleep over the loss and remains premiership favourites.

There is no doubt Ocean Grove has improved even with a lengthy injury list. Grady Slocombe booted four goals and Nick Bourke three while Tom Chalkley was named best.
Drysdale snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating Newcomb 16.19(115) to 10.9(69).
Mitch McGuire led from the front for the Hawks while Ricky Reid booted four goals.
The Hawks are still outside the five, a game behind Modewarre, but have a superior percentage and are poised to pounce if the Warriors slip up.
Newcomb star Jack Duke booted seven goals for the Power to take his season’s tally to 50.
Modewarre scraped home against a gallant Portarlington 13.16(94) to 13.10(88).
There was never more than a point the difference at the first three breaks and the Warriors held on to keep fifth place.
Connor Joseph found the sticks with five majors while Morgan Fenton played well.
Max Ruiter was best for the Demons and Connor Menadue booted four goals.
