Why Reliable Air Conditioning is Essential

Summer can really get hot here in our land down under.

When stepping outside in the warmer months, it often feels like walking straight into an oven.

Australia has endured more than its fair share of scorching heatwaves, which can send temperatures soaring into the high 40s and even low 50s in summer.

As much as we Aussies like to think we’re pretty hardy and try to grin and bear it, the truth is that extreme heat can be dangerous for our health and safety, not to mention it prevents us from doing our jobs.

Therefore, proper air conditioning in all aspects has become a non-negotiable lifeline.

Air Conditioning and Public Health

Heatwaves have been continuously increasing in cities like Victoria, Queensland and Melbourne. Between 2019 and 2022, Australia had 2,143 hospital admissions due to extreme heat, with 410 of those occurring in Victoria alone.

During summer, the rise in hospital admissions because of heatstroke, dehydration and cardiovascular strain affects Aussies of all ages, particularly kids and older people.

Data from Victoria’s heat health alerts show that elderly people 65 years and older suffer the most from heat stress, and will often need to be rushed to the ER departments when affected. The harsh reality is that extreme heat is a silent killer, and it’s especially dangerous for people with health conditions that render them more susceptible.

In such hot and dry countries, good air conditioning is a saviour. It can help cool and regulate your body temperature to prevent heat exhaustion, stroke, and also mitigate symptoms of other life-threatening conditions that accompany heat waves. For the elderly and young children, whose bodies struggle to control temperatures, air conditioning becomes a vital salve.

Vehicle Air Conditioning

If you’ve ever found yourself in the midst of a hot summer day traffic jam, you know all too well just how fast a car can turn into a sauna. The temperature inside cars and other vehicles can exceed 50°C within minutes when left in the sun. That’s deadly, not just for children and the elderly but also for healthy adults.

Heat can lead to fatigue, lethargy, and irritability, all of which can lead to increased risk of accidents on the road. That’s why air conditioning is not a mere luxury in cars; it’s mandatory for every vehicle. It doesn’t matter if you drive a car, truck, bus, or whatever vehicle; it is essential to have a high-quality AC system that will work consistently and won’t give up on you in extreme heat conditions.

Commercial Air Conditioning

Commercial facilities like offices, retail and industries can get even hotter in summers as compared to residential places. Workplace heat affects the working ability and decision-making power of employees to a significant degree, thus leading to more errors and absenteeism. It’s no surprise, since our brains work best when we’re feeling best physically. The University of Melbourne states that productivity can decrease by up to 10-20% when office temperatures rise above 26°C, which means reliable air conditioning is more important than ever in creating the optimal work conditions.

Workers in manufacturing, warehouse and retail settings are at even greater risk of overheating at work, which can lead to more workplace accidents. Therefore, having a reliable system and HVAC maintenance Melbourne in such places eliminates all such risks and helps employees work in a comfortable environment.  In addition to temperature control, air conditioning in large commercial spaces also filters and circulates the air, preventing dust buildup.

HVAC Systems in Emergency Services

We often see firefighters fighting the leaping flames of a bushfire, but what we don’t see is the searing heat they endure. The heat around a bushfire can exceed 100 degrees Celsius, which places enormous strain on the human body. For those first responders, air conditioning isn’t a matter of mere comfort; it’s an actual life-saving necessity. Fire trucks usually have high-end safety features and HVAC systems that firefighters can cool off on between shifts so they can do their jobs without risks of heat exhaustion or stroke.

Besides fire trucks, many other emergency vehicles, like ambulances, also require dependable AC systems to help keep patients and first responders cooler and safer. In such vehicles, AC serves as an essential tool to support fast reconditioning so first responders can be at their best in really tough working conditions.

Air Conditioning in Schools and Educational Institutions

Anyone who has tried to focus in a sweltering classroom knows how easily heat can become an annoying distraction. In the sweltering heat of summer, schools without air-conditioning can be oppressive for students and teachers alike. Excessive heat can not only impact student concentration and achievement but also their quality of life.

AC Systems have never been more important in Australia to ensure a new generation can learn in safe environments. With soaring summer temperatures, more and more schools are coming to terms with the necessity of efficient air conditioning in their learning spaces. When there’s air conditioning in classrooms, students and teachers are more comfortable and better able to focus.

Unlike many countries in the world, Australia has extreme summers that pose a severe threat to the health and safety of Aussies. Therefore, air conditioning is not just a ‘nice to have’, it’s an absolute necessity.
