Concept images of the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre have been released.
The artist images show exterior and interior aspects of the centre, including warm water learn to swim and exercise/hydrotherapy pools, the 25-metre seasonal pool and reception/cafe area.
Surf Coast Shire mayor Libby Stapleton said while the designs will change through the detailed design stage, they provide a valuable first impression of the centre, which will adjoin Wurdi Baierr Stadium in Torquay North.
This week the project received a $3 million grant from the state government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, bringing the total commitment to $16.5 million.
“It is exciting to be at this stage, where we can share impressions of the look and feel of this important community facility,” Cr Stapleton said.
“We look forward to moving ahead with detailed design and continuing our campaign for the final $4.5 million in funding required to make the vision reality.
“We thank the Victorian Government for its enduring support for this project. We are continuing to pursue all funding options, and we know that community support makes a huge difference when we are having really constructive conversations with potential funding contributors.”
The final scope of the Aquatic and Health Centre is likely to be influenced by any announcements about location and design of a Commonwealth Games aquatic facility.
“Progression to detailed design of the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre is reliant on securing the necessary funds and Council building an understanding of a proposed Commonwealth Games aquatic facility,” Cr Stapleton said.
“We have already started work on understanding what impact a new aquatic centre in close proximity to Torquay might have on our facility, including effect on patronage and revenue.”
