Avalon’s new ambassador

Australia’s ‘dunny man’ has jumped on board to become Avalon Airport’s new ambassador.

Actor Shane Jacobson best known for his role in 2006 film Kenny, will front the airport’s campaign for 2020, it announced yesterday.

The 49-year-old said he hopes to inform holiday makers that commuting interstate and overseas can be “super affordable” and “stress-free”.

“We all love to travel but let’s be honest, none of us enjoy the hassle that usually occurs at an airport,” he said.

“We’re going to make the hard bits simple and leave the fun bit fun.”

Avalon Airport’s chief executive officer Justin Giddings said he was “thrilled” to welcome the entertainer as brand ambassador.

“He is just the perfect fit for Avalon Airport. He is well-loved, warm, friendly, funny and an all-round good bloke,” Mr Giddings said.

“With Shane’s help, we want to educate Victorians and bring awareness to the fact that it’s easier to travel with Avalon Airport.”

The announcement comes after the airport, located 20kms from central Geelong, commenced its first flights out of Bali last weekend.

Low-cost Indonesian airline Citilink are now operating a daily 178-passenger service between Avalon Airport and Denpasar.

Flights to New Zealand, Brisbane and Tasmania could be next for Geelong travellers, according to Mr Giddings.

He named Brisbane as “first” on his “wish list” and believed New Zealand was the “logical” next international destination for Geelong.

“When we go to speak to Asian airlines, one of the first things they ask is, ‘are you flying to New Zealand?’”

Giddings said the partnership was one of the first of “many” announcements to come this year in relation to the expansion of the airport.

Airline VietJet Air is also set to commence flights to Vietnam from Avalon in the second half of 2020, according to State Government.
