Golden Plains Shire Council is continuing to prioritise the financial well-being and road safety of the region with a revised budget and road plan.
Council adopted its Road Management Plan 2025-2029 and agreed to put its revised 2025/26 Budget out for public feedback during its September 23 meeting.
Mayor Owen Sharkey said he invited the community to review and provide comments on the revised budget, and to view the new road management plan.
Mr Sharkey also said the revised budget would ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting to accommodate new asset valuations, budget roll-forwards and a new $2 million overdraft facility.
“Changes (to the revised budget) are necessary to ensure council can continue to deliver essential services and capital works for our community,” he said.
“Council’s comprehensive review of the road management plan, together with the feedback received from the community, ensures the plan outlines the responsible budgeting of road maintenance.
“The plan sets a performance standard for council’s road management functions, and identifies responsibilities, maintenance standards and inspection regimes for all road assets within council’s network.”
Council’s new road management plan will focus on road assets, intervention standards, heavy vehicle usage, roadside use and responsibilities, road grading and the hierarchy of roads in line with statewide regulations.
Visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations to provide feedback on the revised Budget 2025/26 by 5pm on Tuesday, October 7, with the budget presented for adoption at the October council meeting.
