Albie’s remains ‘found’

The human remains of a Geelong woman’s 88-year-old father have allegedly been located more than six months after his disappearance.

Elderly grandfather Albert “Albie” Smith had been missing since he walked out of his Ballan Aged Care home last October.

His Geelong daughter Wendy Smith and granddaughter Joanne Smith spent months pleading for information about Mr Smith’s disappearance.

Police spokeswoman Leading Senior Constable Natalie Dean said the remains were found in bushland at Mt Egerton at about 9:30am yesterday.

A report is being prepared for the coroner but there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery, according to police.

Police thanked the media and members of the public for their assistance.
