Two people have been arrested after an allegedly stolen vehicle reversed into a school bus while attempting to flee from police in Geelong yesterday afternoon.
The Police Air Wing spotted an allegedly stolen Kia Optima near the intersection of Princes Highway and Roebuck Street in Newtown on 29 January at about 3.40pm.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle before it allegedly reversed into a school bus in an attempt to flee. The occupants of the bus were not injured.
The Kia is alleged to have driven at officers, who discharged their firearms, before the car collided with another vehicle, with the female driver of the civilian vehicle transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The two occupants of the Kia, a 37-year-old man of no fixed address and a 43-year-old woman from New South Wales, fled on foot but were arrested nearby.
The pair were transported to the hospital under police guard, with the man sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm and the woman having minor injuries.
Armed Crime Squad detectives will investigate the incident with Professional Standards Command oversight, which is a standard practice when a police firearm is discharged.
It is alleged that the vehicle was stolen in New South Wales.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersvic.com.au or on 1800 333 000.
