Geelong women living with cancer will soon have access to a life-changing new support service.
The new Counterpart Geelong Peer Support Hub will meet monthly at the Eastern Hub Geelong from August 26.
The support hub will give women and gender diverse people living with cancer and their carers the opportunity to meet with local volunteers with both lived experience and training in peer support.
Counterpart manager Cindy Van Rooy said the Geelong peer support hub was the first for Victoria, and had already received strong support from local health organisations.
“We have been working with women who have a lived experience of cancer in the Geelong area, the Andrew Love Cancer Centre and the Barwon South Western Regional Integrated Cancer Service to develop the hub,” Ms Van Rooy said.
“We’re so happy to provide this free service for people in the broader Geelong region.”
The support hub held an unofficial soft opening on Tuesday July 29 at the Eastern Hub ahead of the official opening next month.
“Our next hub day will be on Tuesday 26 August from 10.30am, here at the Eastern Hub in McKillop Street again, and we look forward to welcoming women and gender diverse people at any stage of their cancer experience,” Ms Van Rooy said.
