Green light for executive

Geelong Sustainability has appointed Trina Butko as the new executive officer for its social enterprise GreenLight.

Ms Butko brings extensive business consulting, project management and community development expertise to the role, according to Geelong Sustainability.

GreenLight’s activities include residential, business and whole-of-community sustainability projects such as home energy audits, and solar and battery bulk-buy programs.

Biodiversity strategy

Council has called for public comment on a proposed strategy to protect “one of the last remnants of continuous biodiversity” in Geelong.

The Southeast Bellarine Coastal Strategy will examine the future of the green wedge between the urban fringes of Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale in a bid to protect species such as the hooded plover.

Geelong icon closes

Geelong’s iconic circular wooden pier closed on Wednesday after severe winds and storms tore off a few decking boards.

Council expects to reopen the structure this weekend after contractors have repaired the damage.
