Police search for pair after Avalon crash

Police are hunting two men after a stolen hatchback that one of them was driving crashed on the Princes Freeway at Avalon about 1.30am this morning.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash, near Avalon Road, shortly after.

Witnesses told investigators the white 2019 Honda Civic was travelling westbound at high speed before it lost control and crashed into a barrier.

The car had been reported stolen from an address in Highton about 12.50pm yesterday, police said.

Witnesses saw two males exiting the car following the crash and fleeing the scene on foot.

A police helicopter and Dog Squad members searched for the pair but were unable to locate them.

Police this morning appealed for public assistance to find the men.

They urged anyone with dashcam footage or information on the crash to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
