Space Camp applications open for Geelong teachers

One Geelong secondary school teacher will have the opportunity to accompany four local students to Space Camp in the United States.

Kallman Worldwide Inc, the US Partnership Pavilion organiser at Avalon 2023, is inviting local STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) teachers to apply for the Endeavour Scholarship 2023, which would enale them travel to the US Space and Rocket Centre’s renowned Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Endeavour Scholarship is an international education program launched by Apollo 15 command module pilot Colonel Al Worden in 2019, which aims to reward aspiring young space explorers and their teachers with a hands-on astronaut training experience.

The current roster of Endeavour Scholars includes students and teachers from the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Chile, France, Singapore, Australia, Bahrain, and the United States.

The Australian mission, dubbed Mission #10, will include four students and one teacher from Geelong who will travel to Space Camp.

The students will spend one week immersed in an educational experience, learning about the real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The accompanying teacher will have the opportunity to participate in the Space Academy for Educators Program, where they will step into NASA-inspired mission training to learn methods of educating students about space exploration.

Applications close Friday, February 10.
