Pair charged over baby chick thefts

Two animal activists will return to court early next year over the alleged theft of baby chicks from an Anakie farm.

Geelong Divisional Response officers arrested two people yesterday (27 November) following an alleged burglary at a poultry farm on Carrs Road on 8 November.

It is alleged that a 34-year-old Southbank man and a 31-year-old St Kilda woman gained entry to the property and stole a number of baby chicks.

The pair were charged with burglary, theft, contravening a prescribed biosecurity measure and publishing material about the commission of a relevant offence.

They faced the Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday and were bailed to return to court early next year, after the court accepted that the pair posed no significant risk to the community.
