Twelve projects will help improve the Golden Plains Shire’s environment, sustainability, safety and creativity thanks to community strengthening grants.
Golden Plains Shire Council awarded $75,000 in grants to projects across the Environment and Sustainability, Healthy Active Living, Community Safety, and Creative Community streams.
Chief executive Shane Walden said the community strengthening grants program was an “important initiative” to support projects that benefit the shire.
“Over the past 27 years it has enabled the delivery of a variety of excellent projects for the Golden Plains Shire community,” he said.
“Congratulations to the successful groups who have been awarded grant funding to support their projects and initiatives.”
Grant recipients included $930 for Bannockburn and District Men’s Shed’s community timber project and $4,360 for Bannockburn Lethbridge Scout Group’s fundraising activity project.
Momentum Christian Church received $4,500 for its Bannockburn community Christmas carols event, and Bannockburn Soft Tennis received $5,650 for a health and fitness activity for people in their over-50s.
The Bop Arts received $8,000 for its Wild Flowers print project, while Bruce’s Creek Landcare Group received $9,740 to reactivate Bruce’s Creek Landcare Group next year.
Shelford Public Hall Reserve Committee of Management received $2,330 for lighting and equipment safety upgrades, and Carngham Linton Football Netball Club received $10,000 for an electronic scoreboard.
Linton and District Historical Society received $3,960 to run self-guided historical audio tours of Linton and its surrounds, and Contemporary Practice Networks received $9,950 for the Skipton Rail Trail Residency.
The grants also featured $6,480 for the Haddon Community Learning Centre’s Growing Together: Cultivating Community Health and Sustainability project and $9,100 for Ross Creek Landcare Group’s woody weed control on rural roadsides initiative.
