Labor’s clean sweep

Labor has retained all four Geelong seats at the state election.

At the time of writing, 73 per cent of the votes had been counted for the seat of Geelong and Christine Couzens will retain her position.

Couzens had 65.1 per cent of the two party preferred vote, well ahead of Liberal’s James Bennett-Hullin.

Couzens gained 8.89 per cent of the vote from the last election with 45.4 per cent of the first preference votes.

Bennett-Hullin was next with 26.3 per cent and Greens candidate Aleisha Smith with 14.3 per cent.

In Lara, a 2.44 per cent swing against Labor hasn’t been enough to defeat Ella George, who will take over from John Eren.

George leads first preference voting with 48 per cent of the voting with 68 per cent of votes being counted so far.

Liberal candidate Ralph Klein had 19.9 per cent while Greens candidate Courtney Gardner had 10 per cent.

Darren Cheeseman has retained the seat of South Barwon with 66 per cent of votes counted so far.

In what was a marginal seat, Cheeseman appears to have taken it to a safe seat with a 5.15 per cent swing towards Labor and had 43.5 per cent of first preference votes.

Andre Katie’s couldn’t bridge the gap the Liberals and has 31.6 per cent and Greens candidate Genevieve Frances Dawson-Scott had 11.4 per cent.

Labor has also retained the seat of Bellarine with Alison Marchant set to lead the seat into a new era after the retirement of Lisa Neville.
