Murder charges imminent

Detectives investigating the cold case murder of Geelong West woman Annette Steward expect to charge a man after he admitted to murdering a WA woman last year.

Victorian detectives in January obtained a warrant to arrest Darren John Chalmers, 53, over Ms Steward’s murder in 1992.

Chalmers on Wednesday pleaded guilty to last year murdering Dianne Barrett, a legal outcome that allows Victoria Police to now press charges against him.

Geelong council on Tuesday approved the sale of the 130-year-old former Geelong Post Office to developer Bill Votsaris.

In selling the building to Mr Votsaris’ Batman Management Group, council approved a $20 million design proposal for the site including a wellness centre, restaurant, rooftop bar, cafe, public artwork and a rotating light sculpture installation.
