Paddleboarders rescued on Christmas day

A woman and a teenager were rescued by police after they drifted from Portarlington to Werribee on their paddleboards on Christmas Day.

A 51-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy set off from a Portarlington caravan park jetty on the paddleboards about 3pm on Thursday 25 December.

A family member raised the alarm and contacted Triple Zero (000) about two hours later when they had not returned.

Local police units, Air Wing, Life Saving Victoria and Queenscliff Coast Guards assisted with the search for the missing paddleboarders.

Air Wing officers spotted the paddle-boarders floating and waving near Wyndham Harbour about 6.20pm before water police rescued them.

Police said neither were wearing life jackets.

They were assessed by Ambulance Victoria at the scene and were not physically injured.
