Charging up the Surf Coast

An electric boost has come to the Surf Coast with a new EV charger operational in Anglesea.

The Anglesea Community Hub EV charger is one of four new public EV stations being rolled out across the Surf Coast Shire and funded through the state government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria program.

Surf Coast Shire councillor Leon Walker said the new charging site would help fill an important gap for EV drivers travelling through the region.

“With more visitors driving electric or hybrid vehicles, it’s important to have reliable charging stations to keep people on the road,” he said.

“Once all four chargers are operational, visitors will have more options for topping up their vehicles while exploring our region.

“The Lorne charger came online just in time for the busy summer season, and it’s fantastic to see another one ready in Anglesea.”

Works are about to start at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall and are currently underway at Winchelsea’s Old Library Building, with EV chargers due to be operational at both sites by the end of the year.

An EV charger is also located at Lorne’s Visitor Information Centre, which has been operational since December last year.

Cr Walker said charging station sites were selected based on key criteria, including the ability to upgrade power supply and provide an easy-to-find location for travellers.

Other criteria include whether a council-owned and operated switchboard meter exists in that area, while ensuring a minimal impact on heritage buildings and existing parking.
