Golden Plains CEO resigns

Golden Plains Shire’s chief executive has left the role after less than six months in the job.

Shane Walden tendered his resignation to the shire earlier this week, citing a desire to “refocus his career and pursue other opportunities”, according to a statement from Golden Plains council.

His departure was confirmed on Wednesday.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Sarah Hayden thanked Mr Walden for his work since joining the council on September 2 last year.

“Shane’s resignation was accepted with regret; however, we understand his decision to pursue a different career path and wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” Mayor Hayden said.

“Council appreciates Shane’s dedication and hard work during his time with council.”

Mr Walden, who succeeded Eric Braslis, came into the role after nearly five years as assets and operations director at Macedon Ranges Shire.

He thanked the mayor, council and staff for their support since joining Golden Plains Shire Council.

“It has been an honour to support the councillors, staff, and the community of the Golden Plains through the transition from the previous council, through the election, the completion of the inductions for the new council, and guiding the foundational work for the next Council Plan,” Mr Walden said.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside a dedicated group of professionals who have achieved so much with the available resources. The people working at Golden Plains are genuine in their willingness to get things done for the community by working together.”

The shire will begin the hunt for a new chief executive soon. Director of Infrastructure and Environment Phil Josipovic will act as Golden Plains’ chief executive for the next 28 days.
