Man dies in unit fire

A man has died in a unit fire at North Geelong with police currently treating the fire as non-suspicious.

Firefighters rushed to a Church Street property about 7.15pm on Monday, following reports of smoke coming from a unit.

Firefighters rescued one person from the building and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes.

The man was unconscious, breathing and had burns to the body, a CFA spokesperson said.

Paramedics took the man to hospital in a life-threatening condition but he later died, a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed.

The spokesperson said police were not treating the fire as suspicious and would prepare a report for the coroner.
