Suspected attack at police station

A Bellarine police station has been the scene of a suspected arson attack overnight.

It is believed that a flammable liquid was poured outside the Portarlington Police Station on Newcombe Street sometime between 4pm on August 21 and 8am this morning (August 22).

The station was closed at the time of the incident, which caused minor damage to the front and inside of the building.

The fire self-extinguished overnight, and the damage was located by officers arriving to start their shifts.

A crime scene was established by fire crews and uniformed police and an arson chemist attended the scene, with investigations into the alleged attack ongoing.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told the Independent that there had been no further updates or charges made following the incident, as of 11am on August 25.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersvic.com.au or 1800 333 000.
