Friends of Bravehearts Geelong is hosting an afternoon tea function to help raise awareness for children’s safety on Sunday.
The Protecting Our Children August 27 event supports the continuation of the Bravehearts Ditto program, which looks to make Geelong the safest city in Australia for children to grow up in.
Bravehearts ambassador and patron for Victoria Ross Synot said the Geelong Ditto program was important as one in five Australian students are sexually assaulted yearly.
He said more than 10,000 children have seen the Geelong Ditto program since it started in 2012 and has been seen by 98 per cent of Geelong’s primary schools and 100 per cent of the kindergartens.
The event will feature three special speakers: Victorian Shadow Minister for Child Protection and Education, Dr Matthew Bach, Member for the Western Region Beverley McArthur, and Bravehearts Education Geelong team leader Reschelle O’Connor.
The function will be held on Sunday, August 27, at Noble Street Uniting Church Hall on 36 Saffron Street, Newtown, from 2 p.m.
There is no charge to attend the event, but donations will be accepted, and attendees will be given the opportunity to join the Friends of Bravehearts Geelong.
