Kids+ Surf Ed Program hit the water in Torquay last week. (Allison Cooke)

Kids+ Surf Ed Program was back for 2024 and encouraged children and young adults with disability to be water safe.

Operated with the support of Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club (JJSLSC) and Torquay Marine Rescue (TMS), the four-day program ran from Tuesday January 16 to Friday January 19 at Fisherman’s Beach, Torquay.

The goal of the Kids+ program is to improve confidence and skills in the water, including learning about water safety, in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.

JJSLSC provided hands-on assistance and equipment to support children in having fun and

feeling safe in the water, which included a group of local teenagers who gave up their time on their summer holidays to volunteer.

TMS provided support and safety in the water in addition to a ‘bucket list’ jet ski ride for a number of children who had never thought they would get to experience one.

The program is now in its sixth year and continues to be Kids+ most popular program,

booking out weeks in advance, as participation continues to rise.
