Sikh community to benefit if Labor wins

Labor will invest $50 million to build, upgrade and renovate new community infrastructure for multicultural and multifaith communities, including $500,000 to the Sikh Community of Greater Geelong to support upgrading their community centre if re-elected this weekend.

“Labor recognises that – in every way – our Sikh communities have made Victoria better, stronger and fairer,” candidate for Lara Ella George said.

“With this investment, we’ll celebrate those many contributions.”

“Victoria is home to Australia’s biggest Sikh population, so it’s only fitting we’re supporting the expansion of the Sikh Community of Greater Geelong’s community centre,” Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said.

Meanwhile, Moriac Greenfields Reserve will receive $470,000 towards providing a link to Hendy Main Road if Labor is re-elected this weekend.

The funding will complete the second stage of the Moriac Greenfields Reserve Priority Trail and Connections project.

It includes building the necessary boardwalk and drainage along Hendy Main Road.

Labor will also complete the gravel paths and trail along Greenfields Reserve.

Funding will build a bridge crossing on the gravel path, providing a key connection to pathways created in Stage One of the community-led initiative.

“The Moriac community has led the creation of this reserve – we’re supporting this slice of natural environment for families and wildlife to enjoy,” Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman said.
