The City of Greater Geelong will host a street parade to celebrate the Geelong Cats winning the 2022 AFL Grand Final.
Footy fans will be encouraged to come into Geelong and line the parade route to cheer for their heroes and enjoy the family friendly celebrations, with the parade starting at 11am on Tuesday 27 September.
The waterfront will be brought to life for the street parade, which will see the Cats players travel by car from Upper Eastern Beach Road, along Brougham Street, down Moorabool Street and along Eastern Beach Road.
The parade will culminate at Steampacket Gardens at midday for a civic presentation with the players.
The City will also temporarily change the street sign on Moorabool Street to ‘Premiership Way’ in celebration of the Cats victory.
Mayor Peter Murrihy said all Cats fans from across Australia are welcome in Geelong.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for fans to congratulations coach Chris Scott, all the players, their families and support staff,” he said.
“The City of Greater Geelong is thrilled to host this street parade and I encourage everyone to come into the city on Tuesday.”
“Following the celebrations, you can enjoy fabulous food and drink at cafes, pubs and bars across Geelong.”
“Come to the street parade and soak up all the Premiership excitement.”
Sport Chair, Councillor Ron Nelson, said Grand Final victory over the Sydney Swans was a long time coming for Cats fans.
“The Cats have been so good for so long, so this victory is a fitting reward for the years of hard work and determination. Our dreams have finally come true, and we’re thrilled to dust off the Premiership Way sign again,” Cr Nelson said.
“Geelong has really bounced back from two challenging years and footy is the sport that brings our whole town together.
“The street parade is a day for the fans but it’s also going to be so important to local businesses across Geelong.”
