Geelong coronavirus cases have remained level for the second consecutive day as the Victorian total increased by six.
Confirmed greater Geelong coronavirus cases have remained on 63 since 11.59pm last Tuesday while Surf Coast cases have remained on 10 since April 10, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
State-wide COVID-19 cases rose to 1343, including 697 males and 646 females, with people aged from babies to their early nineties.
Sixteen Victorians, aged from their 50s to 80s, have died so far after contracting COVID-19.
In Victoria 135 confirmed cases may have been acquired through community transmission with more than 96,000 tests conducted to date, according to the department.
Another 794 cases were acquired through overseas travel and 407 through contact with a known source, while seven cases remain under investigation, according to the department.
Currently 27 people are in hospital, including 11 patients in intensive care, and 1254 people have recovered.
Of the 1343 cases, 1062 occurred in metropolitan Melbourne and 243 in regional Victoria, with several cases still under investigation.
The rise comes as the department investigates a coronavirus outbreak at a private inpatient psychiatric facility.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos announced 14 known cases linked to the outbreak at the inpatient facility, which she declined to name during a press conference this morning.
“Further testing will be undertaken today to determine if there is any further spread at the facility,” she said.
The first confirmed case of COVID-19 at the facility occurred in late March, with five patients, five staff and four known contacts contracting the disease.
Three of them are in hospital, with one in intensive care.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the department was working with the facility to ensure appropriate isolation, quarantine and contact tracing.
The facility would accept no new admissions and all relevant cleaning and decontamination processes had been followed, he said.
But Professor Sutton described Victoria’s latest “small” increases as “encouraging”.
“They prove that our physical-distancing measures are working but this is not a time to relax our strong approach,” he said.
“This disease can get away from you very quickly as we have seen in cities overseas.”
Meanwhile, police issued 54 fines yesterday, including four men and a woman fined for gathering at a football oval in Winchelsea.
Police conducted 661 spot checks at Victorian homes, businesses and non-essential services yesterday, bringing the total figure to 28,461 since March.
Multiple people committing robberies, vehicle theft and drug-related offences also received fines yesterday, police said.
Under the current State of Emergency Victorians are only permitted to leave home for food and supplies, medical care and care giving, exercise, and work or education.
Police can issue on-the-spot fines, including up to $1652 for individuals and up to $9913 for businesses.
