A man has been arrested in Corio following an investigation into a phone scam involving an elderly victim.
Waurn Ponds police officers arrested the 30-year-old Corio man following a search warrant at a Kosciusko Avenue property at about 7am on Friday, February 21.
It is alleged the offender withdrew $1000 from an 80-year-old victim’s bank account and used a credit card to purchase $9000 worth of electrical goods.
During a search of the premises, police located $16,000 in cash, numerous mobile phones, SIM cards, and gift cards.
Identity documents consisting of driver’s licenses and bank cards belonging to more than 50 people were also found on the property.
The alleged offender has been charged with deception offences and possessing proceeds of crime. He was bailed to attend the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on April 22.
