A new Geelong charity has donated $8000 to cancer research after seven months of functions including a wine drive, trivia night and an AFL Grand Final celebration.

Geelong Region Cancerians founder Phillipa Challis was thrilled to hand the funds to Australian Cancer Research Foundation at Piano Bar on Tuesday.

The Manifold Heights resident launched the group in April to raise money and awareness after surviving uterine cancer in 2017.

The group had gathered a couple hundred supporters since and was planning next year’s events, she said.

“People have already asked me if they can have a table for our trivia night. Next year watch out, we’ll be bigger, brighter and better!”

The group’s chair Helene Bender thanked all the people who donated time, money or venues to support the “excellent work being done in cancer research“.

“When you do that you have to have a bit of fun along way,” she said.
