Bannockburn’s electric addition

Bannockburn is going electric with new electronic vehicle (EV) charging stations set to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Works on the charging stations are scheduled to begin in October and will be installed at three existing parking bays at 29 High Street, near the Bannockburn Library entrance.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Brett Cunningham said he was happy to support the transition to electric vehicles and that the station would help the community reduce carbon emissions.

“Council is committed to do our part to mitigate, adapt and respond to climate change,” he said.

“Providing more publicly accessible charging stations, particularly in regional and rural areas, is a positive step towards making electric vehicles a viable choice for more people.

“We aim to work alongside the Golden Plains community as we all deal with the current and future impacts climate instability has on our shire.”

Mayor Cunningham said the charging station would also help improve Golden Plains’ economic development and tourism.

Works on the EV charging station will be undertaken in the service lane, and there may be minor disruptions during the installation period.

The station will feature a fast-charging unit that can fully charge a vehicle in up to 40 minutes at close to $30 to charge one vehicle.

Council received funding for the development from the state government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria initiative, which looks to create a widespread public EV fast-charging network.
