Fireworks to see in 2023

Two fireworks displays will illuminate Corio Bay on New Year’s Eve.

The first of the two eight-minute displays will be at 9.30pm with the second at midnight.

Eastern Beach Road between Moorabool Street and Bellerine Street, and Yarra Street between Brougham Street and Eastern Beach Road, including Yarra Street extension, will be closed from 8pm until after midnight.

The fireworks will be launched from a barge on Corio Bay.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said Council was excited to add to the Greater Geelong community’s celebrations.

“You’ll be able to view the fireworks if you can see the skyline over Corio Bay, so there are many different vantage points to choose from when making New Year’s Eve plans,” he said.

“Council wishes the Greater Geelong community and the many visitors to our region during this time a wonderful night ahead and a happy and healthy 2023.”

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken said ringing in the New Year in Geelong was set to be a memorable and fun occasion.

“Our annual fireworks always bring a burst of colour and excitement to New Year’s Eve and are well worth checking out, however you plan to celebrate,” he said.

“Council is proud to be investing in these special celebrations to attract residents and visitors to central Geelong where they can support local businesses, with New Year’s Eve known as a massive night of trade.”

Community members are encouraged to enjoy the fireworks display staged by the City of Greater Geelong and refrain from letting off illegal fireworks, which can create a risk of serious injury or death.
