Two drivers escape in police pursuit

Police are hunting two drivers who allegedly drove at patrol cars before escaping in a short high-speed pursuit.

Just before 9am police attended North Shore Road in North Geelong after receiving reports of two cars being driven suspiciously.

Officers spotted the two cars, which drove at them before fleeing at high speed, police alleged.

Police said the cars, a Holden Captiva and a dark coloured Jeep, did not make contact with patrol cars while fleeing.

The officers initiated a pursuit but terminated it a short time later. Police declined to detail why the officers terminated the pursuit.

“We don’t comment on why we do or don’t pursue vehicles for operational reasons,” Victoria Police spokesperson Alistair Parsons said.

Police believe the two cars could have been involved in a minor collision with another vehicle near the intersection of Mercer Street and Railway Terrace, Geelong.

Police urged anyone who witnessed the cars or had dash cam footage of them in Geelong to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
