After years of community campaigning Lara’s main railway crossing is set for a major $220,000 repair next month.

Lara MP John Eren made the announcement recently following years of residents urging state government to repair the McClelland Avenue crossing.

“We’ve listened to the community and acted,” Mr Eren said.

“When the works are complete, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will enjoy a smoother road surface when travelling through the crossing.”

Mr Eren said workers would begin repair works on April 6 to make the most of a Geelong line closure for maintenance works taking place at the same time.

Crews would remove the current surface, fill the under layers beside the rail tracks with crushed rock to provide a more level surface and then lay new asphalt, he said.

The works, scheduled for completion on April 8, would also include repairing adjoining pedestrian crossings, he said

Between March 26 and 31 coaches will replace trains between Warrnambool and Geelong, V/Line has announced.

Coaches will then extend to run between Warrnambool, Geelong and Southern Cross until Friday 10 April.

Coaches will then run between Warrnambool and Geelong on April 11 and 12, with evening coaches on April 11 running all the way through to Southern Cross.

Before the major disruption period, coaches will also replace trains between Waurn Ponds and Southern Cross from tomorrow to Sunday.

A temporary coach replacement timetable will be available on the V/Line website closer to the works to help passengers plan their journey.
