New local music website launches

A new online service is making it easier for live-music lovers to find and access entertainment across Geelong.

City of Greater Geelong has partnered with not-for-profit organisation Live Music Locator to deliver a pilot program in the region gathering all upcoming live music gigs on the one website, with maps, event details and links to venue websites and ticket outlets.

Live Music Locator, which is listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations and has full charity tax-concession status, was established in 2024 and launched its first pilot program with City of Yarra in July that year.

With the aim of making live music more accessible to all audiences and support venues and artists of all genres, the Live Music Locator website includes a range of filters to help people find the entertainment they enjoy.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj, chair of the arts and culture, hospitality and live entertainment portfolio, said Geelong had considerable musical talent.

“Our city is home to some incredible live acts,” he said.

“While we know of so many, there’s so many more waiting to be discovered, and this website will facilitate that while also encouraging people to get out and support venues and the local economy.”

“The arts and culture, hospitality and live entertainment portfolio is all about initiatives such as this and continuing to promote and support our local entertainers, musos and hospitality venues.”

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the City was proud to support the pilot and he hoped the community would get on board to support local artists and venues.
