Geelong’s active COVID-19 cases have dropped by eight despite one new case yesterday.

Greater Geelong had 323 cases as of midnight yesterday compared to 322 the day before.

But active cases dropped from 159 to 151, following an increase of four the day before.

A drop in active cases can indicate that a number of people have either recovered, died or that cases have been reclassified.

A sixth resident at Opal South Valley aged care died at home on Sunday night, bringing the total number of Geelong residents who have died from COVID-19 to seven.

A total of 31 residents, including the six who died, and 18 staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

Two Opal South Valley residents are currently in hospital after contracting COVID-19.

Colac Otway Shire had 36 active cases as of midnight yesterday, three less than the previous day and 25 less than a week ago.

Surf Coast Shire had one new case, bringing its active cases to six, while Golden Plains Shire’s active cases remained level on three.

The department has so far linked 83 cases to an outbreak at Colac’s Australian Lamb Company abattoir and 53 to an outbreak at Golden Farms Poultry in Breakwater.

Victoria recorded 216 new COVID-19 cases with eight reclassified, largely due to duplication, increasing the total by 208 to 17,446.

Another 12 Victorians, all aged-care residents, have died from COVID-19 bringing the state’s death toll to 363.

The deaths included three men in their 70s, four women in their 80s, one man in his 80s, three women in their 90s and one man in his 90s.

Of the new cases, 47 are linked to outbreaks or complex cases, and 169 are under investigation.

Victoria has 7155 active cases with 3751 cases from unknown transmission.

Currently 675 Victorians are in hospital after contracting COVID-19 with 44 in intensive care, while 9729 people have recovered.

Of the total cases, 16,049 are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 1041 are from regional Victoria.

More than 2,008,630 tests have been processed to date.
