A Bell Post Hill man blew more than five times the legal blood alcohol limit when police breath tested him on Monday night.
Officers noticed a car running idle outside a Braund Avenue address with a single male occupant who appeared alcohol-impaired about 9.40pm, police said.
The 52-year-old driver blew a positive preliminary breath test before he returned an evidentiary breath test result of 0.255, police said.
Police impounded the man’s car for 28 days, at a cost of $1115, and expected to charge him on summons with drink driving.
The officers were patrolling Bell Post Hill as part of Operation Sentinel.
Since March 21 police have conducted more than 47,000 spot checks at homes, businesses and non-essential services across Victoria to enforce COVID-19 public health directives through the operation.
