Ford day hits full throttle

Geelong’s All Ford Day hit full throttle last Sunday with 1200 cars packed into Eastern Park after display spaces completely sold out the night before.

Vintage models, muscle cars and other unique vehicles filled three football ovals, with entrants and spectators enjoying mild conditions and minimal wind while browsing the displays.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” event director Scott Pigdon said.

“It’s been perfect for Ford-lovers, friends and families to come out, have a wander and take in some amazing vehicles.”

A worldwide one-of-a-kind 1991 EA Falcon GT took centre stage as this year’s feature car, in a nod to the event’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Held in storage since the closure of Geelong’s Ford Discovery Centre in 2012, the car is one of the company’s most ambitious Australian projects from yesteryear.

“Ford is in our blood here in Geelong,” said councillor Kylie Grzybek, who officially commenced the All Ford Day.

“It’s a great source of pride; multiple generations have worked in and around Ford for many years.”

Ford Australia sales director Fadi Mawal joined Cr Grzybek in opening the event.

“[Ford] is one of the leading businesses in terms of high-end technology, and research and development in Australia, and we’re really proud that it all started here in Geelong,” he said.
