Kids visited by football greats

Two Geelong kids have been left purring with excitement after a special meetup with some famous local football stars.

Past Royal Children’s Hospital patients Malu Hunt and Ollie Wedding met AFL’s Geelong Cats stars Tom Stewart, Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs for a tour of Lara’s Good Friday Appeal house on Monday.

Erin Hunt said her son Malu was excited to meet the sports legends and that the four-year-old was currently enjoying life after having surgery and rehab in the past to treat debilitating seizures.

“He’s just started four-year-old kinder, making new friends and loving it. He is living life to the fullest,” she said.

Erin said Malu’s surgery might not have been possible without the community’s support of the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“It’s hard to put into words, it’s so amazing and we are so lucky to be just one hour from the best hospital in Australia,” she said.

Meg Wedding said her son Ollie loved meeting the players and was doing well after his lower leg was amputated when he was 18 months old.

“He’s really, really good. He has a blade prosthesis now, with in-built suspension, and he’s very active jumping off everything and climbing every tree,” she said.

Meg said the Royal Children’s Hospital had provided a lot of support to her family and felt that programs like the Good Friday Appeal house auction helped raise money for families in need.
