Seminar to help small businesses cut energy bills

Small businesses across the Geelong region will have the opportunity to learn about a new state government program designed to reduce energy costs through an online seminar this week.

The webinar will be hosted by social enterprise group Greenlight and Geelong Sustainability on Thursday to inform Geelong small business owners about the state government’s Small Business Energy Saver program.

The program is an initiative of Sustainability Victoria and offers small businesses savings on the purchase price and installation costs of energy efficient items including heat pumps, air conditioners refrigerated display cabinets.

The program aims to get small businesses across the retail, hospitality, accommodation, healthcare, professional services and manufacturing sectors to upgrade existing equipment to items that are more energy efficient.

Greenlight program manager Steve Turnock said the program could be beneficial to business owners in the region who were feeling the financial impacts of the pandemic.

“This program offers small businesses with less than 19 full-time equivalent employees some important financial benefits as many seek to recover from the effects of the pandemic,” he said.

“We recognise that time is precious for small business owners so the scope of the program will be outlined in a half-hour webinar that they can watch from the convenience of their office or workplace.”

The webinar is scheduled for October 21 between 3 and 3.30pm.
