Remembering a ‘devoted’ father

The family of a man found dead in Geelong on Friday has been remembered as a “devoted father” and a “loving” person.

Paul Grapsas, 40, was found dead with significant head injuries by his pregnant wife beside his vehicle outside their Western Beach Road home close to 4am on Friday, September 15.

The Grapsas family said in a statement that Paul was a well-known and respected community member and asked people to respect the family’s privacy “during this tragic time”.

“Paul Grapsas was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. A man of integrity who was happiest when surrounded by his family, friends and church community,” they said.

“He was a devoted father of two beautiful young children and expecting a third on the way and had just received a promotion at his workplace.”

The family said Mr Grapsas was a skilled sportsman who loved golf, fishing and video games and appealed to anyone with information to share it with police.

“Paul will be dearly and desperately missed by all those he loved and who loved him,” they said.

“We urge anyone with information between Thursday evening and early Friday morning to contact Victoria Police.”

Homicide Squad Detective Sergeant Tony Hupfeld said Paul had left his home Thursday night at around 10pm and that he was known to walk his dog at that time.

“His wife became concerned when she awoke around 4am to find that he was not home, she’s gone outside the address and found him deceased.,” he said.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been out and about that night and seen anything or heard anything suspicious between 11pm and 4am.”

Police said there were currently no further updates on the investigation into Mr Grapsas’ death but that it remained ongoing.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
