Give Where You Live appeals to Geelong

The Give Where You Live Foundation is asking the people of Geelong to dig deep to help out those in our own community.

The Give Geelong Appeal, which runs from Friday, March 17 to Friday, March 24, seeks to raise money to support those who are doing it tough in our region.

The Foundation will use the funds raised to help meet the basic needs of people who are experiencing serious crisis, as well as fund local education and employment programs.

Give Where You Live Foundation acting chief executive Meg Price said she was looking forward to seeing Geelong get behind those most in need.

“We’re working hard to create a fairer, more equitable Geelong, where all people and places thrive and we can only do that with the support of our community,” Ms Price said.

“The Give Geelong Appeal is a chance for the people of Geelong to come together and help raise funds for our community.

“Your donation to the Give Geelong Appeal will have an immediate and local impact.

“It will support people in our community facing long-term unemployment, help to improve educational outcomes for children, help people facing homelessness and support families struggling to meet their basic needs, including food insecurity. ”

The appeal kicks off Friday with Footy Colours Day, with workplaces, sports clubs, friendship groups and schools all encouraged to participate by wearing their footy colours and donating to the cause.

Give Where You Live is also holding its Give Geelong Breakfast on Thursday, March 23 at the President’s Room at GMHBA Stadium.

The breakfast, hosted by local identity Paula Kontelj, will also feature speaker Sarah Wilson, author, broadcaster and founder of the ‘I Quit Sugar’ movement.

All proceeds of the breakfast will go to the Give Geelong Appeal, and the fundraiser’s giving partners GMHBA and CLOS will match every donation made up to $20,000.
