Lights and sirens for Christmas

Santa will be making a special appearance as he rides into Portarlington on a fire truck for a free family-friendly carols event.

Portarlington Community Carols will fill WG Little Reserve with carols, entertainment and family picnics on Friday 19 December.

Host Julie Rock said the carols have been running for about 25 years and that she expected close to 700 people to attend on the night.

“Santa will be making a special visit with the assistance of the CFA in Portarlington, so the lights and sirens will be on,” she said.

“We will have our live nativity scene, which is always a massive hit with the kids as they love getting dressed up and participating in a little display.

“We’ve also got the Geelong Community Band playing again for us and leading our carols, along with a small choir, some guest artists, and four or five local artists, which will be really cool.”

Ms Rock said the carols were open to everybody and that it would be a “good night” for the community.

“Come down with your family and friends nice and early to get a spot on the grass and enjoy some carol singing,” she said.

“I always enjoy seeing the kids getting all dressed up and feeling like they’re a part of the show, which is really nice.

“Christmas is about celebrating all the good things in life with your family and friends, and…this is a really special time for everyone.”

Portarlington Community Carols will run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with the Lions Club hosting a sausage sizzle from 7pm.
