Amy Elizabeth is one of those people who, seemingly at random, frequently picks up a new interest or passion and gives it a real crack.
For the past two years she has immersed herself in music and songwriting.
“I love when life is random, and mine can be,” Elizabeth said.
“Sometimes friends and family are like, okay, what are you doing this week? I love doing random things, and I’ve always wanted to do music and singing and I’m finally doing it.”
But dismissing her current musical journey as merely a ‘lol so random’ moment would be a mistake.
Elizabeth’s passion for music has always run deep, while the conditions leading up to her decision to start singing – the pandemic, relationships, life – were just right.
Growing up in Torquay, she always loved singing, putting on concerts with her siblings for mum and dad, taking lessons at school and helping her mother prepare for her own auditions.
But she never took the plunge.
“I guess when you’re a teenager, nerves and judgement get the better of you, so I didn’t often sing publicly,” Elizabeth said.
“Mum and Dad have always been my biggest supporters, and Mum has always said, you should sing, join a choir, you should do a show.
“I would have liked to be that person in high school that did musicals, but I was way too nervous and I just didn’t put myself out there.”
But it wasn’t until she sang at her mother’s 70th birthday party in 2023 – and received plenty of encouraging feedback – that she began to seriously consider it.
“I was probably not in the best place of my life… and it was a bit like an escape for me,” she said.
She began taking lessons with local piano man and music teacher Dave Van Elst, who soon encouraged her to write her own songs and record.
Fast forward to September 2025, and Elizabeth is putting on her debut solo show, accompanied by Van Elst, to launch her first single, Kiss Me.
“I want to take people on a journey…it’s about my story, but hopefully I can show people out there how important it is to live for you, and do the things that make you happy, instead of staying miserable,” she said.
